Provo, Utah Skatepark

provo_skatepark.jpg

This is not a very good skate park.

208 North 2050 West, Provo Utah. Get off at the Center Street exit in Provo and head West. It’s in a park that is roughly on the corner of Center Street and Geneva Road. If you take a right on Geneva you’ll see it on your right-hand (east) side.

The Provo skatepark is one of the worst built skateparks in the state. This might have something to do with it being one of the first skateparks in the state. I heard a rumor that it cost something like $60K to build, and then they had totally done it wrong so they had to put $20K more into it to fix it. I’m not sure whether this is rumor is based in fact though, because the skatepark doesn’t appear to ever have been “fixed”.

The park is generally lumpy. There’s a sort of pyramid with hips, but the sides are so steep it’s basically unskateable.

There is a big round rail that isn’t so bad, but then again, isn’t that good either.

The edges of everything are too rounded.

In my opinion the funnest thing to do in the park is to launch out of one of the banks. But it’s hard to get speed so you can’t get a very good setup if you push enough, and if you don’t push enough you barely make it to the top.

If you live in Provo, at least you have something, even if it was a waste of money. If you don’t live in Provo, don’t bother visiting this park. If they had poured a flat area of concrete and built a few ledges it would have been a much, much better place to skate.
