Guy Mariano Thrasher Interview

News Flash: Check out the Guy Mariano Mouse Part Contest.

I can hardly type I’m so excited…and I’m not the only one.

How many times have you seen one of your heroes retire, then come back for a spell, only to stink at whatever it is they used to do so well, essentially ruining their legacy?

It’s happened so many times to me that I wish they would just stay retired sometimes. Then something like this interview with Guy Mariano comes along and because your expectations are so low you end up being blown away. It’s not just that your low expecations were exceeded, it’s that even if you had high expectations they still would have been exceeded.

Let’s put it this way:

1. Guy doing a frontside nosegrind on a bank to bar. Ok, it looks nice, but nothing fancy there. But it’s ok, because the next page is amazing.

2. Sequence – Fakie bigflip over a full-size picnic table from a bank. It’s huge, it’s tech, and you can tell Guy is cruising. He lands about four or five feet on the far side of the table.

3. Sequence – Fakie 5-0 on a bank to bench to half-Cab flip out. Flawless. Probably did it second try.

4. Switch pivot fakie on an awkward bank to curb. Nothing to tech here, but still hard.

5. Sequence – Frontside varial heelflip up a big gap. A real big gap. You could fit a Hummer in there no prob.

6. Frontside half-Cab flip up and over that same bank to full-size picnic table. A hard trick to do since you can’t really see when to pop.

The photos are impressive, but so is Guy’s insight and comments. It’s just him talking, there’s no interviewer.

“My suggestion is not to invest your time and energy into things that aren’t postiive and that can affect you in a negative way; you can get caught up in certain behavior that can stick with you for the rest of your life.”

Now I just want to know what Guy’s been up to for the past five years. This interview doesn’t shed any light on that or anything else, so don’t be looking for any info. It’s just some good talk and some amazing photos.
