WARNING: MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR AGES UNDER 30
The warning on the front cover says it all. This is a pool skating video. No kickflips, no rails, no stairs, just a bunch of old guys drinking beer and skating backyard pools. Every 15 seconds you hear a beer tab being pulled in the background noise.
So I got this for free after subscribing to Thrasher magazine a month or two ago. I have yet to receive any magazines, but the DVD was worth it in and of itself.
If you’ve never skated a pool, you might not appreciate this video as much as you could. But if you’ve ever skated a pool at all you know it’s difficult at best, and that concrete is hard stuff.
You know how your parents watch your videos and cringe everytime somebody falls and then have to leave the room, and although you think it’s funny you’re not quite sure why they can’t handle it? That’s how this video was for me. These guys are skating so fast and falling so hard I find myself cringing and just feeling like the stardom placed on todays younger street skaters might be misplaced. These pool guys are insane.
Everyone in the video is amazing, but let me say that Rune Glifberg makes pool skating look effortless, which it’s not. He has a very small part but you’ll know what I mean when you see it. I don’t know who all the other guys are but I’ll tell you that John Cardiel, Chet Childress, Peter Hewitt, Dan Drehobl, Neil Heddings, and Ryan Johnson make this video happen.
