Gyro Pak - Never Fall Again

Ok, page 149 of the September 2005 issue of SLAP. “Gyro Pak - Never Fall Again!” is the subject of the ad. I’m trying to figure out if this is a joke or not. Here are some reasons it may be:

1. The backpack is obviously a fake. They show a zoomed in photo of one of those cheap toy gyro/tops and expect us to believe that this 50-cent toy is going to keep a 180 lb skateboarder moving at 25 mph from falling down? Gyros of that size aren’t that strong.

2. “not available at 360skate.com” it says. Right, real clever. They said “not” when it really is available. That makes me like them, because they’re clever. Oh wait, I went to the website and typed in “gyro” and it’s true, it’s not available there. Now I’m intrigued.

Hmmm, while the actual product is not available, the ad is. That’s what I said, the ad itself is for sale. I guess if you buy it they’ll tear the page out of SLAP and send it to you. And guess what, it’s on sale! It’s been marked down from $1,000,000.00 to only $800,000.00. Yeah, you read right, $800 grand for the ad.

3. The final clue that it’s a joke? This text on the same webpage:

What will we think up next. This crazy Gyro Backpack was thought up by our Design Department as our second magazine ad. The crazy thing about this product is that we are actually getting a lot of requests for it. The Gyro Pack doesn’t actually exist though. If you want to assemble your own you can do so with a backpack, a chicken feeder, and a handle from a toy broom, and assemble it with some wire and glue. Oh and don’t forget your gyroscope on the inside. You might look a little funny as our rider Jason did as we were shooting this at the skatepark, but who cares. Until the next Ad. (which is our best yet)

Man, I feel like such an idiot right now. Suckered in by trick advertising. Well, I suppose they deserve the publicity of having me actually post this. But I’m going to show them what’s what by not buying anything from their site. Ha, take that suckas.

You know why the ad tricked me though? Cause there is actually stuff pretty close to this being promoted in real ads. But I’ll have to make fun of them another day. Time to go home.

hahahahaha I’ve fallen for advertising like that to, like with Geico the insurance company’s commercial for small house about 2 average newly weds living in a 4 foot tall house it looked so much like a real reality t.v show. then at the end it said something about saving money on car insurance. i felt like a idiot.
