Transworld Magazine - July 2005

Q: If you could change one thing about the current state of skateboarding, what would it be?

A: I would have skate companies owned by skaters again.

Brian Lotti interviewing Shiloh Greathouse in the July 2005 issue of Transworld Skateboarding Magazine.

To me, this is the highlight of the entire issue for one reason–this is exactly what Sublimited is all about. I got tired of seeing stores sell skateboards and skate goods when they’re not owned by skaters, they’re not managed by skaters, and sometimes they don’t even employ a single skater.

I’m one of those who firmly believes that skateboarding belongs to skateboarders, not to corporations that have no interest in anything other than money.

I’m not sure there was anything else in the magazine except some deodorant ads…just kidding, but I’ll have to write it all up later. Got some other work to do at the moment.

Ok, next day, let’s finish this up.

Seriously though, there are a lot of weird ads in here.

1. pp. 48-49 - Samsung
2. p. 81 - Coca-Cola
3. p. 89 - Taco Bell
4. p. 96 - Axe Deodorant
5. p. 103 - Mountain Dew
6. p. 107 - Right Guard Extreme!!!
7. p. 109 - Entenmann’s?!
8. p. 121 - Tag Deodorant
9. p. 123 - Winterfresh Gum
10. pp. 228-229 - Mountain Dew special advertising section

And if I wanted to I could probably include another five that were a bit iffy. I guess magazines have to make money somehow to keep putting out the magazine, I just hope they’re really sticking it to these corporate advertisers and charging them a few times what they charge the skateboarder owned companies.

What other comments can I make? p. 239 - Corey Duffel is trying so hard to be punk. I don’t know what else, just read the Shiloh interview.
