Learn How to Skateboard

Whether you just bought your first board, you’re a parent who’s trying to help your kid who’s just getting started skateboarding, or you’ve already been skateboarding for a few years, there’s one video you should get and it’s Starting Point 3 from Transworld Skateboarding Magazine.

This video is not new, it’s been out for at least two or three years. However, it’s the best video I’ve seen to really teach kids how to skate.

Ok, it may not be the best video for the total beginner. It doesn’t teach you how to ollie, which is the basic trick upon which all of skateboarding is built. But even if your kid is five and just starting he’s going to learn how to ollie within a week or two and then he’ll be ready for this video, so I’d still get it. It’ll give him/her something to shoot for.

What I like about the video is that it’s easy to understand, Steve Berra has good style, and you can really see how to do the tricks. Even though I’ve been skating for 20 years I like watching this video because it still helps me. There are times during the video when I say “Man, I’ve been trying that forever, but I can finally see what I’m doing wrong.”

Yes, there are tons of other instructional videos out there, and a lot of them are good, this just happens to be my favorite.
