Chances are you haven’t heard of Binary Skateboards yet. They’re based in Utah, they’re only a year old, and they don’t have website yet, because Brock is too busy and won’t get back to me so that I can design it. But all in good time, and then I can actually link this post to their stuff.
Sean over at Binary gave me one of their new decks on Saturday, so I promptly set it up and took it for a ride.
Bad things first. The nose looks a little square to me. However, when I rode it I didn’t feel like it was square at all. It just looks a little square, but it’s so slight it might wear a little and look better to me. But it felt just fine.
Now good things.
1. I took it down a long rail 30 times and it didn’t break, which I was impressed with, because I’m a 230 lb, 6-foot guy and it’s easier for me to break a board than it is for Russell Crowe to get in a barfight.
2. It felt good on my feet. Good shape, good concave, good pop, it was all good. But I’m still just thrilled that I can take it down a rail and not snap it.
3. Binary is pushing the pixel-computer-design thing, so my board has graphics from the classic video game Dig-Dug on it, and frankly I like the colors.
I’d post a photo but I need to get a new digital camera or something.
Anyway, I’m usually skeptical of newer skateboard companies that don’t have any big pros yet, especially companies from Utah, but I have to say I’m happy with the deck, and not just because it was free. Trust me, if the board had broken I wouldn’t be writing a review about it. Thanks to Sean and Brock for the deck.
