In the August issue of The Skateboard Mag on p. 188 skateboarding’s answer to Robin Williams, Clyde Singleton, makes some disparaging remarks about skateboarders who wear tight pants.
Personally, I don’t have much of a problem with skaters wearing tight pants. I think it’s just as funny as skaters wearing super baggy pants. My own tastes lie with the slightly baggy pants because I have thighs that are as big as tree trunks, so anything less than baggy would make me look like I was wearing a pair of Wranglers.
What I think is particularly interesting is that Clyde makes an indecent proposal about what we could do with whoever started this tight-pants fad. My question is who really did start this tight pants thing going?
Anyone who can post the oldest photo (post 1994) of a skater wearing tight pants gets a prize. We’ll track this sucka down yet and then Clyde can do what he will with him.
BTW – Is that really the same Chris Hall that used to ride for New Deal? When did that guy bulk up? He used to be thinner than I was at the time, and even though I’ve put on about 50 lbs that guy is way past me…at least I hope so.

Tight Drawls
when 80’s era skaters wearn’t wearing shorts they were wearing tight pants, i havent watched it in a while but somewhere in animal chin, tony is rocking some…
clyde find someone like kevin davis in jax to get an old school or a recent picture of GARY GEMMA, he is still rocking tight levis. he has been wearing these since day one of his skating history. clyde of all people you should remember that.
from lil marti and big marty.
i would have to say it was andrew reynolds or something. all those baker guys use to wear baggy pants like ali and jim.
I agree with clyde. I think it makes skaters look gay. Doesnt anyone find it weird that a lot of skaters dress like girls.
Hey marty, give me a call or email me, I’m still around. Gary Gemma
I think it was Ed Templeton–he loves skin tight pants!
i dont have baggy or tight all my pants are right in between
idk, but chad muska used to be thugged out. and now dudes rockin the super duper slims….
I think the tight pants are hott on skaters ;]
Skateboarding has always been a sort of rebel sport i guess you could say we started wearing tight pants simply because were anti society and the norm for society was to wear loose pants. I’m not saying every skater is —- MTV and —- this and @#$#@ —- but, the great thing about skateboarding is weather my friend is wearing the baggiest of pants or the tightest of pants i have never experienced or seen someone pick on them for it. i Guess thats the beauty of it were all skaters. Yea i guess i remember it was about 04-05 when i started seeing a lot of skaters wearing skinnier jeans and now every skate company has a skinny jean or a skinnier jean than before, and than new company’s like Kr3w and Altamont mostly all there jeans are skinny.
Baggy pants are the go-to for beginners. When you get better and your style develops, tight pants just look CLEAN on film… for some people. Maybe thats the origin of them, who knows who started the whole thing though.??
Skating is at a low again. I started at the turn of the century and its the worst ive seen it at. Just keep true to yourself and friends and skating can still be fun. this scene looks queer on 90 percent of the people who skate. Thats a fact but oh well and sh1t.
I think that tight pants are GAY! You would be shot in the 80’s and even the 90’s here in CA. Now my boy wears it and I dog him everyday about his tightness! HA
skaters who wear tight trousers are EMO’s.. simples!
