Element is allowing anyone to vote for one of six Element flow riders to go on tour with the team, and we’ve got a Utah head named Morgan Cope who’s in the running. So if you’re in Utah, go cast your vote for Morgan. Personally I think he has the best part, but I’m kind of biased. Matt Fink has a darn good part as well. Of course they’re all good, and skateboarding is kind of hard to judge, but hey, go vote anyway.

Do you buy the shoe based on looks, whose shoe it is, how long you think it’s going to last, or what? Have you ever bought Lakais and then had the buyer’s remorse and wished you had bought something else? If so, why?

Have you ever had a bad experience at a skate shop? Probably one of those mall stores, right? Or was it a local independent at the strip mall? Or maybe it was an online skate shop that never sent you the goods you ordered. Whatever the case, if you’ve had a bad experience with a skate shop let us know about it here. Not just to rant and point fingers, but let us know what exactly it was that they did wrong so that those who run skateshops can learn from it and make their shops better.

Alright kiddos, what’s your favorite online skate shop and why do you like it so much? Design? You like how it works? They give you free stuff? You don’t know, that’s just where you’ve always bought stuff online?

Skate Shop Search Engine Optimization

If you’re a skate shop owner and sell product through a website, then you probably already know the value of search engine optimization and search engine marketing. The higher you rank in the search engines for keywords like “skate shoes” and “matix jeans” the more you’re going to sell of those products.

Even if you don’t sell online, your skateshop can still benefit from SEO. If you’ve got a skateshop in New York, then there are sure to be kids and parents going to Google and typing in “new york city skate shop” or other stuff like that, because they want to take their kid to a skateshop. If you’re showing up at the top, that parent might bring their kid into your store for back to school shopping and drop $500. But if you’re down at #20, they’ll probably go to one of your competitors who comes up higher.

So here’s the thing. I need skate stuff. I need shoes, decks, clothes, etc. I know how to get your site ranking in the search engines. I own a search engine optimization firm, after all, and have done this for years. I already did this for one skate shop here in Utah and was able to bump up their rankings dramatically within one month. And whereas I normally charge clients $2-5K per month for SEO, I’m willing to cut a stellar deal with you independent shops, maybe as little as $100/month in trade, because I don’t really care about making money, I just want to feed my skate habit and if I can help out the independent guys a little, so much the better. How to keep skateboarding out of the Olympics

Just keep it disorganized. Otherwise it might suffer the same fate as BMX racing. According to the Wall Street Journal article, the reason skateboarding, a much more popular sport than BMX racing, isn’t in the Olympics and BMX racing is, is because there is no established governing body for skateboarding. And should there be? If it leads to someone building me my own Berrics then maybe I’d be for it.

Foot Locker buys CCS

Hmmm, Foot Locker is buying CCS. I can see it now, a kid walks into Foot Locker, a guy in a referee outfit walks up to help him, the kid says he wants some Emericas, and the referee says “Oh yeah, the Andrew Reynolds model is great for doing your kick-jumps.”

But seriously, I doubt anything will change. CCS will probably run as independently as it ever has, I doubt this will lead to skate shoes at Foot Locker (please tell me they aren’t already there…), and the world of skateboarding footwear is already heavily corporate. Just look at the Gav, I bet that guy wears a tie six days a week.

Skateparks in Iraq

Utah skateboard ramp ban getting news attention

The recent ban on skateboard ramps in the Salt Lake Valley area of Utah (where the majority of the population in Utah lives) is attracting attention from the news media.

Keep up the work kids. Get your parents to contact the powers that be. Talk to the news media. Be on your best behavior. You have more power than you think.
