Free IPath DVD

ipath.jpg

I hope all the other skate companies are getting the idea that free DVDs = increased sales of product, because I want more free DVDs.

The latest free DVD to come along was included with the October 2005 issue of The Skateboard Mag. So far, that’s three free DVDs I’ve gotten from my subscription, which I haven’t even had for half a year. First there was the free Girl / Chocolate What Tour DVD, then the free Adio DVD, and how it’s IPath shoes. And just like the others, it’s a good DVD. Not full length by any stretch, but pretty darn good, nonetheless.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I got a free Almost Round 3 DVD when I subscribed. What a deal.

Jack Sabback has the opener. He basically has a full-length part, and it’s pretty good. Long nosegrinds, long switch nosegrinds, and plenty of style. He’s really improved since the last time I saw one of his parts, which was probably in a Zoo York video or something.

Then you’ve got some assorted footage from Matt Field, Tim O’Connor, Fred Gall, Quim Cardona, and Bobby Puleo. And some more from Jon Newport, Danny Renaud (man that kid has some style, even if he is dirty), then some Nate Jones, Kenny Reed (sorry, mostly old footage here), Tony Cox, and Ocean Howell! One of my all-time favorites. “You may not have heard of him…but you will…”

Not many of you remember Barker Barrett. He was pro for Planet Earth back in the early 90s. He skated a bit of street and did it well, but where he really shined was on mini-ramp, and he hasn’t lost the old tricks at all. In fact, he’s gained a few…pounds, that is. You’ve probably never seen an old fat skater work the tranny like this. Apparently Barker works for IPath, making it happen, workin’ for the man.

Then we’ve got stuff from Nilton Neves, Adelmo Jr. (I think this guy deserves an award for the heaviest head of hair in the industry, you can tell that stuff must weigh about 20 lbs), Karl Watson, Jake Rupp, Corey Sheppard, Matt Pailes (runner up for heaviest hair), and finally Matt Rodriguez, winner of the loosest trucks award.

It’s all about 20 minutes, and it’s good stuff. By my calculations, less than half of the team has dreads. I bet you thought it was like 90%, but you’d be wrong.

“You may not have heard of him…but you will” is a mostly accurate quote from H-Street’s Hokus Pokus video, 1990, but the quote is Mike Ternasky refering to a friend of Ocean Howell, and not Ocean himself.

You’re right, it’s a quote about Marcus Wyndam. Marcus and Ocean were two of my favorite skaters from that era, and since they often seemed to skate together I frequently mix them up and this is one such occurence. Thanks for the correction.

You are welcome, and additionally I think the correct spelling is Wyndham. That brings back some memories. I wonder, was that the first time anyone had done a flip/spin trick to handrail? I cannot recall such being in a video before that, but I certainly have not seen all videos. Perhaps you might know, or someone else reading this could offer info. And maybe it was 1989 but I thought I was 1990 that Hokus Pokus came out.
