Almost Round Three DVD

Rodney Mullen, Daewon Song, Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, Chris Haslam, Cooper Wilt–Is there anyone in that lineup who you wouldn’t want to see a new video part from? Ok, I didn’t even know who Cooper Wilt was, and I wouldn’t say his part was mind-blowing or anything, but perhaps that’s just because of who he’s surrounded by.

Chris Haslam’s pants are too tight and show me more of him than I’m comfortable with, but other than that and the music I’m not too fond of his part was great. He starts off with a huge kickflip fakie at some cement park, does a cute little frontside blunt on another board (hard to explain, you have to see it), and end up his part doing a kickflip backside smith down the shorter side of Hollywood High.

Ryan Sheckler still looks small and keeps pulling off stuff that bigger guys couldn’t. He ollies a gap that is at least 42 times his height at the end of his part.

You know, when I first saw footage of Greg Lutzka a few years ago I could tell he was doing hard tricks but I couldn’t stand his style. I don’t know if he’s just wearing different clothes now or what but now I like his style quite a bit. He does what I think is the longest backside tailslide on a handrail that I’ve ever seen, I’d like to see the side view on that. The switch backside 180 kickflip is made to look way too easy.

What can you say about Rodney and Daewon? It’s just more of the same mind-blowing stuff. Is that really Jack Nicholson in Rodney’s part? What’s crazy about Rodney and Daewon is that most skaters would love to have just a few of their tricks at the end of their video parts, but these guys are packing their entire parts full of enders.

Overall, the video is worth buying and watching a few times (what skate video isn’t?), and worth adding to your library. I wasn’t a big fan of most of the choices in music, but it wasn’t that bad. I don’t think the video has the same appeal as many other videos due to being over-produced and graphics that I can only classify as simplistic and lame, but who cares. It’s a good video with some amazing stuff in it. Go buy it or subscribe to The Skateboard Mag and maybe get it for free.
