I’m a skate video addict, so if I watch a new skateboard dvd or video I blog about it here. But instead of telling you who did what at what spot I’m more inclined to tell you whether a particular skateboard dvd is worth buying or not.
If you’re expecting something different from Habitat Skateboards new video Inhabitants than what they’ve produced in the past, then you’re going to disappointed. It’s the same solid, impressive skateboarding that pushes boundaries while having fun and interspersed with lots of artsy stuff.
Lakai’s Fully Flared DVD is good. It’s very good. But I have to admit there were some disappointments. That is, just about every part after Mike Mo’s, who has the opening part, was a disappointment because the entire world of skateboarding is disappointing when you consider how freakin’ amazing Mo is.
So Globe has this series of videos they’re posting online to feature their riders, one at a time. Hey, that’s almost a rhyme. And there again! Wow, I only wish my wife were here to see this. Anyway, they just posted Chris Haslam’s part today, and it’s a doozie.
Dang!!! Argggghhh…man, I’ve only watched the first two parts of Mystery’s Black and White video and if the rest of it is as good as this then…dang. For the Bobier skeptics, Ryan has quite a good part, definitely the best I’ve ever seen him put out. But then it’s on to the relatively unknown Jimmy Carlin, whose part is freakin’ amazing…

I don’t know what to say. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. Well, it’s actually a lot like things you see every once in a while, but taken to a new level and nothing else but.
I don’t know about you, but I didn’t hear anything about the Element European team video entitle “Rise Up”. I didn’t hear any promotion about it, I didn’t read anything about it (despite having subscriptions to five magazines)…nothing. I’m still not clear on when it was released.

Plan B Video Clips
Plan B has finally gotten the Plan B website up and running. It’s all Flash so I can’t send you directly to the section of the site that has the video files on it, but if you click on “videos” in the upper right it’s all there, and they actually have a decent sampling of footage.
In case you missed the boat, this DVD from Foundation comes free with the January 2006 issue of The Skateboard Mag, which I received yesterday, the 21st of November. Is there anything else in skateboarding that comes early?

Zero New Blood Video
Ok, I got to see Zero’s New Blood video/dvd on Saturday. If you haven’t seen it yet then let me just say a few things:
1. You should see it.
2. Wear Depends while watching Chris Cole’s part.
Just got the June 2005 issue of The Skateboard Mag yesterday afternoon. And surprise, surprise, it had a DVD of What Tour? with it. That’s the Girl and Chocolate tour to Australia in 2004. I love these free DVDs that comes with the mags.

The warning on the front cover says it all. This is a pool skating video. No kickflips, no rails, no stairs, just a bunch of old guys drinking beer and skating backyard pools. Every 15 seconds you hear a beer tab being pulled in the background noise.

What If? Blind Video
Blind’s What If? video has been a while in coming. The first full-length video release since I was in my prime. Even Video Days seems like yesterday to me, so I wonder what these kids today think when someone says “Yeah, the last Blind video came out 12 years ago.” Some of these kids weren’t even born yet.
Rodney Mullen, Daewon Song, Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, Chris Haslam, Cooper Wilt–Is there anyone in that lineup who you wouldn’t want to see a new video part from? Ok, I didn’t even know who Cooper Wilt was, and I wouldn’t say his part was mind-blowing or anything, but perhaps that’s just because of who he’s surrounded by.
